This is a reply to Ben's post. I agree that CCTVs are a intrusion of ones privacy and may cause more harm than good. CCTVs also limit ones freedom and that is not acceptable. The general public may find this to be a irritance as well.
- Jeremy Lam
I would like to comment on Jeremy Lam's post. True that the crime rate in Singapore is very low, and CCTV's are expensive. But there is still crime and bringing up more CCTV's could possibly detect more people and therefore catching more people doing wrongful acts. It would also mean lowering the crime rate. The inclusion of CCTV's might not actually mean retrenchment of security guards, the CCTV's could be placed in areas where the security guards might be not looking out for, and the security guards would be the ones looking at what the CCTV is detecting.
-Chong Kai Wei.(6)
I would like to comment on Vincent Leow's post.
First of all, I do not think that the robbers would care if you had a CCTV at your house or not. Look at all the jewelry shops being robbed, do they not have CCTVs? The robbers obviously will have something to bypass your CCTV protection before they attempt to rob your house.
Another point that I would like you to note is that, CCTVs do NOT have to be those you see on television programs, they could be as small as a marble. So, do you think that something this small can even be spotted easily?
-Brandon (2)
I would like to comment on Shawn's post. Although it is expensive, most people can afford to have one or two CCTV camera's in their shops. There will always be crimes happening everywhere everyday. Even though they decline, i Don't see how this would raise Morale for people to work harder. Even with the CCTV camera, are people still safe from robberies? No. We still need to have people who will respond to the camera to Prevent the Criminal from escaping. As such, we need Better CCTV camera's, As to be able to capture the Criminal's face and stop him immediately
-Tristan Choo (7) p.s : M2amf: What do you expect from the blogger expert Reuben?
Although i agree that surveillance cameras are expensive nowadays... doing this is to protect the citizens from being robbed or any bad incidents that happen. Besides, the government is paying for all this and the money being used is from the tax we pay every month or so. If installing and buying this cameras might prevent an incident, it is definitely worth it. It is better than being robbed and losing your money in the end and not knowing who did it. Maybe, with lesser crimes being committed, the morale of citizens may be better and would want to work harder to earn more money.By: Shawn Chua Yi Rong
Advantage: Its good to have a CCTV as it helps in spotting crimes and stuff... Of course, we shouldn't put it in places where people want their privacy eg. lifts, toilets. It will be good for shopkeepers or security guards to moniter the happenings in their shop or any other place especially corridoors. Maybe using a CCTV at secluded areas would be enough. As a CCTV is used to record crimes and such, using them as such places would be best. Some parents might be feel that if their child is alone at home, it is unsafe so they install a CCTV to keep track of their child. It helps by giving them assurance on their child but takes away the childs sense of freedom as his every movement is being watched.
Disadvantage : A CCTV isn't cheap and can be easily damaged. Covering the lens with a piece of thick paper can stop it from recording anything. Other methods include throwing hard objects causing it to spoil. Children whose parents use the CCTV at home will also have this feeling of being stalked as their every movement is being recorded and seen by their parents. The children will obviously not want it as they want their freedom too. Who does'nt and wants to be controlled by their parents?
-Jeremy Yew (15)
Well... my opinion is CCTV surely intrudes everyone's privacy be it old people or youngsters. Many adults nowadays install CCTV in their homes to check on their parents on what they are doing and their child's daily activites , this would make anyone feel secure and yet irritated as they no longer have the freedom or will to do anything they like .. The fact that CCTVs are installed is just to maintain security in homes as well as offices. As such... i think that CCTVs are a irritance to people's lives as they are intruding on privacy although they are a tool of security.
Ben Lim ( 23 )
I think that the government should not waste any more money on CCTVs as not only is it an intrusion of privacy, but it is also very expensive. The crime rate in Singapore currently very low and I think that it would be a waste of money to purchase more CCTVs. Furthermore, the increase in CCTVs will cause employment rates to plunge as the inclusion of CCTVs will cause the retrenchment of security guards. Another disadvantage is that CCTVs can be easily destroyed. A person's privacy is very important and many agree. Installing security cameras may not solve the pressing problems and might also worsen it. There many disadvantages of having security cameras but they outweigh the advantages. In conclusion, i feel that CCTVs are a disadvantage.
- Jeremy Lam
I would like to comment on Reuben's posts on June 19.
I disagree that the government should not spend so much more money to make a surveillance network. Well, I believe otherwise as it helps build up economy due to the enormous spending made and it would be of great help in this status quo where there is a economic crisis. When more are spent on these surveillance, economy improves and it still helps to bring down crime rates which is caused by the economic downturn. There you go, 2 birds are killed with 1 stone. However, I could not help wonder why are you contradicting yourself as you wrote "Spending more money on unwanted things instead of helping us is wrong." while the same time this "CCTVs can be used for bad, but rarely, and really, what sort of true "bad" can it do? They are not hidden cameras." One moment you said that it is not bad for us, yet another moment you said that these are unwanted and it would not help us?? If you said it would help us by setting up CCTV surveillance and there is little disadvantage, why not carry it out.
Another thing is that the things that caused flack to the government are quite minor in terms of looking at what the government has done for us. These things happens in every society, while installing CCTV surveillance should not cause another commotion in the government as it brings down crime rates, helping the community. Well, you have my 2 arguments, which I believe are more major than yours, against your reasonably minor arguments.
Hope I do not bring out any rivalry or hate in this post...
Kaiser Tan (33)
Disadvantages of CCT surveillances.
The disadvantages of CCTV cameras would be if it would be substances would be sprayed over it, the images would be too blurry to read. Lasers would also be a threat to CCTV cameras, laser pointers would temporarily blind them, allowing any person to do a bad deed, and high powered lasers could damage the camera.
-Chong Kai Wei.(6)
1. What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ?
This form of security is really useful as it allows shop owners to be able to monitor everyones movement in the shop without moving about. People who enters the shop would know that they are being watch and thus would not try to do anything "funny".
Without this surveillance, few people would take advantage of the current situation and when the shop owner isn't paying attention, they would shoplift.
Some people feels that this kind of surveillance is invading their privacy and feels weird constantly being watch, but if they don't know that it is for their own good and that if they have no intention of stealing or committing any crimes, they shouldn't be bothered by it and just continue with what they are doing. 2. What are the disadvantages of CCT surveillance ?
The disadvantages in this surveillance is the cost. Just one of it alone could cause a few hundred dollars and you couldn't possibly buy just one, you would have to buy a couple of it depending of the size of the shop.
Also depending on what the shop is selling, if it is nothing much, like canned food, cheap plastic toys, etc, such surveillance would not be worth it.
Dylan Kho (10)
i agree that by using the cctv surveillance, individuals privacy will be disturbed, there is a price to pay even though you want better security. if for instance you enjoy having your privacy invaded, then cctv surveillance would be for you. i think we should at least respect people's privacy, at least we could try to place the cameras in areas which does not intervene to other's privacy, but by using this, there will be a weakness to the cameras surveillance, smart robbers would know which are the places for them to evade from surveillance, thus this would always be a push and pull situation, everything comes with a price. so to me the most hardy situation that does not cross decisions are to use the community as a huge camera. using the neighborhood locals as eyes as they are the ones who know their own area best!
i think that privacy is important to everyone as it contains each persons secret. by installing a cctv camera, it not only invades another persons privacy, it also makes the person feel irritated. the feeling is as though someone from the back is looking at every movement made. Hence i feel that a cctv is not needed.
- Joshua Koh
Yo, there is alot of advantages for CCTVs! It prevents crimes from happening! Example, if I would like to rob a house, I would obviously choose a house without CCTV installed! Think about it would you risk getting caught cause of CCTV?? And also there is perverts who flash themselves infront of girls. It is a great chance to catch the pervert and bring those shameful acts to a halt! Hahaha, and the disadvantages of CCTV is that it is too easy for them to be destroyed just by throwing objects that could cause severe damage at it.

There are many advantages and disadvantages CCT surveillance.Advantages: It would reduce the crime rates and to act as something to prevent crimes by putting up fake cameras, letting the people feel much safer.
Disadvantages: How ever by reducing crime rates and preventing crimes, there is a price to pay, people's privacy will be disturbed.

I would like to comment on Willie's post.
I agree with Willie that CCT surveillance is able to track down your movements but not at anytime. Some CCT surveillance are programmed to off and on at a certain time so saying that CCT surveillance can track peoples movement at any time is wrong. Secondly, he said that as it is a period of economic downturn now, people will turn to shoplifting which I don't agree. People needing money may resort to shoplifting and robbing but they must also think of the consequences that if they are caught, they will need to pay fines of up to $2000 and jail up to 6 months which is definately not worth it. Lastly, he said that technology can work 24/7 but human can't but technology can be damaged so sometimes we have to rely on human being and they can change shift instead of working for a whole day
-Shawn Tan 2E (35)
To Wen Chi: CCTVs CANNOT be placed in private property (ie. shopping malls, condos) by the government. By a CCTV network, it means on every alley and street (say, Orchard Street), will be looked on. No one is allowed to place objects in private property. For example, what if I placed a surveillance cam in your house. You can court me. The government cannot break the law- unless you are in North Korea (Daryl, this is sarcastic.). However, they can taylor the law to their needs, like what the US government Obama (again, sarcasm) warned AIG execs they would make a law which ban that type of bonus payoff. -Reuben "stupidpower" Wang
I would like to comment on Reuben's post. In his post, he wrote that the government should not waste money on a CCT surveillance. However, I disagree and thinks the CCT surveillance is very important in helping to reduce crime in Singapore and would allow the residents to feel more safe when shopping. A CCT surveillance is required to help reduce crime and the government should not save money for their own needs and thus allowing crime to take place more easily.
Lim Wen Chi (24)
One of the advantages of CCTVs is the ability to watch and observe anything that is happening. This is important as it can be able to prevent crimes and terrorism from happening, it is also an effective way to check on the daily happenings in which people might be afraid to tell the police, such as loan sharks collecting "protection fee".
A disadvantage of the CCTVs is that it intrudes people's privacy. For example, some people might be doing something that they might not want people to know and the CCTV is actually filming the footage of the person carrying out the act.
I think Singapore should implement this system of CCTVs as they are important in keeping the crime rate low and this far outweighs the disadvantages as long as the people who are watching the footage do not leak it out.
The implications on my own privacy if Singapore implements this system is very little as I do not do any things that I do not want others to know.
- Brandon (2)
I would like to comment on Joshua Ng's post. in his last paragraph, he said that terrorists and known opponents may also hack the system and thus gain access to the cameras themselves, and this will allow them to gain valuable information about what the police are monitoring. In the case of terrorists, it will allow them to know when best time to strike.
i disagree with with him as i think that gaining access to the cctvs will not help them to gain valuable information about what the police are monitoring, though they could also use the hacked cctv to their own advantage, using them to monitor the movements of the important people in the area, and destroying edvidence.
But i agree with him when he wrote: In the case of terrorists, it will allow them to know when best time to strike. It is very important to have the right information about what they are after, whether their target is in the right position, weather the area is clear of police and can look for blind spots.

No, the government SHOULD NOT spend so much more money to make a surveillance network. PAP The government is already under so much flack nowadays for so many things, including this, this and this. Did I mention this? Spending more money on unwanted things instead of helping us is wrong. Did I overstate myself? if that is the case, I am sooooo sorry.
-----------------------------------------
However I vehemently disagree and deny such a fact. Firstly I would like to start over the dispute of the government being in a difficult situation. The government's job is to govern the country and I would not think saving the money for other sorts of their own egocentric needs would allow Singapore to live cordially. If so, the citizens of singapore would look askance at the government and participate in anti-government activities.
Secondly how is spending money to build a crime deterring infrastructure unavailing. The latter was even much skeptical than any other posts I have come across. You are arguing tenuously without sufficient proof and are indeed commenting on the uselessness of CCT surveillance.
To reinforce my previous statement I would like to quote and alter my previous post which says that when the criminal investigation department does not have enough evidence of any single case, they could turn to the reliance of CCT surveillance. Alongside with that, a CCT surveillance would not cost more than two hundred each. Although it may be a big sum to individuals, but to the government holding Singapore's destiny along with countless millions or billions of cash I would see it as a cheap and nifty device to avert crime in Singapore.
And another small notification, I think your words just suffice to the word count, &
sorry to sound both sardonic but seriously no offense to any misconceptions and opposition to your perceptions.

CCTV is commonly used in daily lives to prevent improtant or valuable items from being stolen or take away without any permission and some people buy fake CCTC cameras as it is cheaper and can fool people that is real but isn't it obvious that no cables are connected to the camera when you pass by a fake camera? Eventually, more people will use real CCTV cameras instead engineer Lubino who use real CCTV cameras to prevent his teenage sons from entering pornorgraphic websites while he is at work.Done by: Dominic cho
Okay, this is a question to everyone why do all of you argue about the advantages and disadvantages of CCTV? Most terrorists think they are martyrs they do not care whether you see them or not, worse still they want YOU to see them they want everyone in their religion think they are heroes. Even worse, how you catch them when most of them have blown themselves up into pieces. I know what you are thinking, CCTV is to catch the masterminds of the bombing, oh please masterminds do not go walking in HDB corridors they live quietly in a secluded area.

I would like to comment on Willie's post. Firstly, I would like to point out the large number of grammatical errors. It makes the post very hard to read. But more importantly, I do not agree that the recession will cause a significant increase in crime as one would have to be very desperate and be willing to go to jail for them to rob. Having many CCT cameras will mean employing many people to monitor these cameras 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is almost impossible and will be a logistical nightmare. In Willie's post, he wrote that robberies "could result in loss of money for the merchandize we have paid if they are successful in doing it." This is very incorrect and really does not make any sense. Lastly, I would like to say that I found his post lacking in common sense and that it was not thought through and not checked well for its many mistakes and errors.

CCT surveillance can also be used after a crime or terrorist attack. The investigators or police officers would use this surveillance to track down the men responsible for the punishable damage done. This footage can also be used in court during a trial. Calvin leong (4)
I do not think that the government should be spending too much money on CCTV as installing the CCTV cameras are not cheap and may not be able to catch thieves all the time. Thieves may come up with methods of how to evade the CCTV and steal items. Also, the maintenance fee of the CCTV will not be too cheap. Therefore, Installing CCTV's are not good as the cost too much money and sometimes re still unable to catch theives.

The disadvantages of CCT is that terrorists can hack into CCT networks and observe the ongoing of the activities and use the information to their advantage like planting bombs to cause more deaths or injuries. People are also worried about invasion of privacy. They are worried that they cannot conduct any activities without being observed. Some people are worried that even minor offenses like littering may be caught on CCT and then the offender tracked down and fined. Proficient hackers can also enter the network without authorised permission and switch off the CCT cameras, defeating the purposes of installing the cameras.

Reply to Shawn Tan
CCTVs are not turned on or off by the internet, thus the name "close circuit". And I am pretty sure the customs know people smuggle chewing gum over, but they don't catch. Governments, no matter how strict they are, close a eye to minor offenses. How do you think China's imitation market survives? The Chinese government, even though strict and communist, still let them. Oh, and I am pretty sure the terrorists need a actual video feed of their target. Their network is pretty huge.
I would like to comment on Keith's entry. He has stated that CCT surveillance would help in capturing thieves, robbers and terrorists. However, there is a flaw in this statement. What if the person who committed such crimes knew that there were surveillance cameras. He could disguise himself or wear a coat and a mask to cover his face and body. He could also be wearing shoes and added height to the shoes in order to make himself look taller and mislead the police. Hence, i think that the surveillance cameras may not always help the authorities to find suspects and thus this is a flaw in the surveillance cameras. -Joel
Wow, really? Of course CCTVs cant catch everyone. They are meant to be a deterrence, in case anyone want to commit a crime. And really, misleading the police? They aint stupid, you know. They are pretty smart, unless the suspect they want to catch is Mas Salemat no one.
CCTV is one of the most primitives uses video cameras are invented. People dreamt of monitoring a world, where crimes will always be brought to justice. As the technology now is plausible, critics are calling foul at the breach of privacy.
But really, are the critics really that logical? What "privacy" is so important in public places? What is so private that the public can see you do it, but not the police? A use of CCTVs can save lives, and as stated in the video, can be coupled with algorithms which pick up warnings.
Its ironic, to say the least, that the head of the free world, the US, is implementing things like this. This technology is no different then having officers everywhere in the city, minus the problems caused by bad officers.
CCTVs can be used for bad, but rarely, and really, what sort of true "bad" can it do? They are not hidden cameras.

This is my 2nd post.
It is only adding onto my previous one and is therefore quite short.
I feel that using CCTVs in the economic downturn is ingenious. Although it would mean the use of a few millions, maybe even billions to deploy them citywide, this can drastically cut down unrest, helping the city mantain order and therefore slowly progress forwards economically. I think that marking the CCTVs obviously is very useful as this causes people to think twice before commiting a crime, Because, even if we find out what the person did and who he is by using a sneaky cam, it will still take a while to catch them. Ruling with an Iron fist mercilessly like hitler and qin shihuang is the best way to control a city.

What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ?
The advantages of CCT is that it deters thefts and/or helps to identify the perpetrator more easily to prevent further crimes. Example, when your boss is up to no good in the toilet, the CCT would capture it on film and can be used as incriminating evidence against him. It could also track the activities of employees like where they go to and how long they spend on the phone and therefore the boss can take the necessary action and therefore increase productivity. With the help of CCT, people are afraid of committing crimes as they may be caught on footage and be arrested. It is also more efficient than spot checks by the police themselves as terrorists and burglars will be alerted of their presence while in the case of CCT, they may be unaware.
What are the disadvantages of CCT surveillance ?
The disadvantages of CCT is that terrorists can hack into CCT networks and observe the ongoing of the activities and use the information to their advantage like planting bombs to cause more deaths or injuries. People are also worried about invasion of privacy. They are worried that they cannot conduct any activities without being observed. I would like to respond to Wei Jiong's post. He said this:
In a scenario where a person knows the place well and know the weakness of the cctv system, the terriorist or burglar can use it to his advantage so as to hack into the system and stop recording althought it seems as thought the system looks like recording, so what if the security see the guy, but he has no evidence that he is there at the scene of the crime.
He said that the terrorists can put a footage of the recording that happened two weeks ago. I'm sure this would not be possible because the time and date of the recording would be shown on the CCTV Camera. Also, what do you mean by "knowing the place well". Are you referring to the camera positions? I hardly think that the cameras will look obvious, although I think stopping the recording will be a good way for the terrorist to escape with his wrongdoing because there will be no evidence that he was there since nothing was recorded at the time.

Do you think singapore should step up CCTV surveillance in light of the economic downturn and the increase in the number of crimes?
Stepping up CCTV surveillance increases security and act as a deterrent tool against crimes. In light of the economic downturn an increase in crimes is unavoidable as normally employed people are now jobless. Day to day living becomes increasingly difficult and looking for job is like looking for a needle in a hay stack! Knowing surveillance cameras are around stop to-be burglars in their tracks and if they are stupid or desperate enough, they will be caught red handed!
Terrorists will take the opportunity in this stressful and depressing period to wreak havoc and chaos in our society. Installing the CCTV surveillance will help track suspicious acts and hopefully curb their missions before they are launched.
In light of the recent protest and demonstration by foreign workers, the authorities can track out-of-hand acts and beef up security to deter serious altercations from taking place.
What are the disadvantages of CCT surveillance ?
There are risk of data protection violation and tapes have to be kept in secure places under lock and key and away from prying eyes, and from people who might want to destroy incriminating evidence.
People feel that their privacy have been violated and are uncomfortable being watched all the time, thus affecting their daily activities and attitudes.
Wireless cctv are not fool-proof and with modern technology, can be hacked into by another receiver, and the user can remotely loop or switch the cctv off.
Cost will be increased as guard must be licensed if the area being monitored is used by the public, to make sure that no one come round and tampers with the cctv.
One must also be wary if camera is moveable that you are not looking into private residences nearby and thus en coached on people's life.
Last but not least, to build, maintain and repair a cctv network is very costly, so cctvs must be placed very strategically so that it could be utilized to its full potential.

Q1: With CCTV, shoplifters can be caught more easily. Also, they can be used to monitor people in the situation that they are committing crimes, such as vandalism and so on. This reduce crime levels as the CCTV can be used to gather evidence about the suspect in question.
A few comments to calvin's post, what if the terrorists hacks into the security system and puts in a still image of the location where the camera is suppose to monitor or even, terrorist could put in a 2 weeks ago video footage of the same place, will the guards still sense something amiss?probably not. terrorist would not be so dumb to let the whole police force, gurkha or the army to know about their operations. the terrorists would use a more silent approach into tricking the guards, not making it so obvious.

As terrorism is very advanced nowadays, the terrorists tend to hack the security system to make sure the security forces don’t see their men in the field planting a bomb in a key location. But, once the cameras are hacked, the security guards on duty at the monitors would realize something is amiss. If the screens go black all of a sudden, they would know that something is not right, and raise the alarm immediately. Even if the terrorist or robber destroys the camera before doing his evil deed, the guards will also know something is amiss.
Calvin leong (4)
I feel that there are disadvantages of CCT.1) Some people will feel watched on and they will feel uneasy even though they know that they are not doing anything wrong. 2)The cost of up-keeping it will be higher and more people needs to be hired to keep watch.
Overall, i still feel that placing more CCT in Singapore is good so that our crime rate can go down ever more!
A few comments to Norman's post. Yes CCT surveillance can be very useful in inspecting every movement the criminals make but when you look at another point of view, it is not 100% foolproof. It will be almost impossible to solve the crime when they disguise themselves for example by masking their face and dark-colored clothing (most of the time crimes happen at night), which allow them to hide in dark, unable the surveillance to detect them easily or even recognizes their face. I also don’t agree with your last sentence, ‘very useful to bring criminals to justice’. This is because forensic investigation is much more systematic than CCT surveillance especially to murder and robbery. Just rely everything on CCT surveillance is not going to work. Labels: Willie Seah (37)
If Singapore installed more CCTV cameras around Singapore then it will be easier to track down people or to watch over critical locations where no police officers are on patrol. Lets say if we had more CCTV cameras during the time when Mas Selamat escaped, then Singapore would not need to dispatch so many police officers just to look for him as the CCTV cameras around will be able to spot him and hence increase efficency. Therefore I am for installing CCTV cameras in Singapore
done by Sean Ang the previous post i forget to write my name so i posted another one
CCTV Cameras help decrease the need for manpower which is a valuable resource in Singapore. This is because the cameras can pick up sound and images from the places they're located at, then send the information to a human controller and he/she will then decide if the information is a crime and its threat level, he/she can then call for reinforcements if necesary to the specified area.
-Julius William Lim(18) 2 EDWARD
I believe that Singapore should step up on the surveillance in the light of economical crisis.
Firstly, this could help reduce crimes rates in Singapore. As the people are starting to get poorer, they tend to rely on robbing and stealing as their last resort in means of survival in this world. These cameras can help identify and track them if that happens or prevent crimes as humans have a mentality of when being watch, they would refrain from robbing or stealing. The videos also serves as evidence if in prosecution of the apprehended.
Secondly, the sales of the cameras also help economic to grow as people are willing to spend more for these cameras, whether dummies or real. As the sales goes up, the company can afford to hire more employees and thus creating more jobs for singaporeans. As more jobs are created, economic downturn will be countered in Singapore. Hence creating a cycle in which the crisis would be resolved.
Therefore with the reasons, Singapore should step up on the surveillance.
Kaiser Tan ( 33 )
CCT surveillance is a very effective way of preventing all sorts of threats and problems from occurring. The most popular reason, is crime. The police installs cameras all over key locations that they suspect would be a hotspot for robbery or theft, or pick pocketing. Once a camera picks up a scene of crime or terrorism going on, be it a shopping mall, train station or even bus interchanges, they would be quick to react, or they better be.
calvin leong (4) the one below this is mine, kinda forgot to put name.
CCT surveillance cameras are very useful as in they help to cut down the crime rates as these cameras can capture facial images and the police can trace criminals much easy than before. Some more advance cameras can even "hear" gunshots and even detect what gun is used, and further more, it can face to that direction so it can capture what is happening on at that area and hence is very useful to bring criminals to justice.
Done By: Norman Yap (39) 2e
CCTV surveillance would help in capturing thieves, robbers and terrorists. If more CCTV surveillance is installed, the number of crimes will diminish and we would bring forth a safer environment for the People. This will allow more areas to be monitored and decrease crime rates. It is Especially during this economic downturn that we keep an eye on our people and make sure they do not panic over staple foods and start stealing. This characteristic is therefore used to monitor for any vandalism, robbery and any other criminal activity in a specific place the surveillance camera is placed. that way, identification of criminals would be easier looking at the person's facial features by just enhancing the video image.
Tristan Choo (7) P.S. Someone forward teh questions to me thru StudyWiz Plox... And does our 2nd post have to be on a different topic or can it be a comment
There are many advantages of CCT surveillance. It would help the police monitor the country more efficiently because instead of having several police men or women walking about, they could have just one person monitoring the screen to check for danger. This will allow more areas to be monitored and decrease crime rates. It will may road safer for us and will deter criminals. I feel that this added security will be beneficial to all the people. Especially in these times of increased danger and terrorism, the cameras will be very important in the monitoring of suspicious peoples and will allow police to track them down and kill them.
Lionel Wong(38) 2E
I would like to comment on Joshua Ng post. He stated that terrorists and known opponents may also hack the system and thus gain access to the cameras themselves, and this will allow them to gain valuable information about what the police are monitoring. In the case of terrorists, it will allow them to know when best time to strike. However, once the terrorists hacked into the system, the police would not know that they are being hacked? Even if they managed to hacked into the system without the police knowing, the security guard whose job is to look at the camera would not know someone else is controlling it to view some other location? Hence, I think if terrorists hacked into the system, the police would still be able to find out.
Alfred Tay (1)
If more CCTV surveillance is installed, the number of crimes is much lesser and the city will be much safer. This is due to the fact that surveillance is being able to inspect or rather know the every moves what are you doing at any time. Therefore, things will not get out of hands. In this period of economy downturn, many would face financial problems and some may turn to be shoplifter or robber. This could result in loss of money for the merchandize we have paid if they are successful in doing it. Moreover, the technologies are able to work for 24/7 but we human cannot. Labels: Willie Seah (37)
Q1) The advantages of CCT Surveillance vary. The Primary advantage is of course, as mentioned in the video, the monitoring of people around the area. In New York, this would mean less robberies and thefts. Only the daring criminals or really lucky when the screen wasn't watched will be able to commit their crime with impunity. CCT Surveillance will help the police to know when and where a crime is committed, sometimes before it even happens, and can thus take action faster than before. So, CCTV Cameras can help prevent crimes.
CCT Surveillance also allows the police to watch the streets and towns of their on-goings in case someone is attempting something illegal such as speeding or vandalism. In any case, CCT Surveillance will definitely pull down the number of crimes committed in the area that is being watched.
Another advantage is to track known terrorists and their doings. CCT Surveillance can be used to monitor their activities and know when they are about to strike. This will help the police to counter their attacks and stop their deadly plans to kill people.
Q2) The main disadvantage of CCT Surveillance is cost. The money required to install such cameras around the city will not be cheap as a large city requires many cameras. The subsequent maintenance cost must also be taken into consideration. Damaged or faulty parts will need to be replaced and cost more money.
Also, the locations in which they are placed have to be well-chosen, preferably somewhere not easy to spot or areas that can see blind corners too. This will allow more areas to be monitored. A good position is required because as Joel has said below, a person may be aware of the cameras around the area and will try to avoid being detected by them.
CCT Surveillance also has its social costs, namely, the intrusion of privacy of innocent citizens. Moreover, the absence of cameras will cause the person to think that he is not being watched and think that it is safe for him to do whatever he wants. This, of course, means the intrusion of innocent peoples' privacy. Given a choice, most of us do not like being watched by CCT Surveillance because of our own reasons. Some would think that the Police are watching them because they are doing something illegal, while others would think that the Police have no right to see what they are doing and where they are going. This causes uneasiness in the people and they will feel that the streets are not a safe place to be in, after all.
Terrorists and known opponents may also hack the system and thus gain access to the cameras themselves, and this will allow them to gain valuable information about what the police are monitoring. In the case of terrorists, it will allow them to know when best time to strike.

P.S. If Q3 and Q4 are required, please tell me, I've got all 4 of my answers at hand, but I was told by Keith that only 2 questions are required. Labels: Joshua Ng
cct surveillance are good as they can monitor any activities around it, this characteristic is therefore used to monitor for any vandalism, robbery and any other criminal activity in a specific place the surveillance camera is placed. that way, identification of criminals would be easier looking at the person's facial features by just enchancing the video image. these cct surveillance cameras also prevents lesser crimes being commited as these would create an awareness among all the criminals and therefore lesser crimes would be commited.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CCTV SURVEILLANCE?
One of the immediately obvious advantages is that the unit is no subject to the failure of any type of wiring. The cameras make use of wireless technology to accomplish the task at hand. This absence of wiring that could fail or be cut means there is much less chance of something going wrong with the unit, or that a clever thief can circumvent the system by severing the connection. Short of ripping the entire camera out of place, there is not much that will slow the unit down. the cameras are able to work even if a burglar tries to cut the wiring of the camera.
Another advantage of these newer models of wireless surveillance units is that they are usually less expensive than most people would think. In fact, it is possible to purchase these types of cameras at a significantly less amount per unit than many of the wired counterparts on the market today. Thus, the cost of this cameras are not as expensive as we think.

The advantages of CCT surveillance are numerous. CCT surveillance allows security services and police to see and investigate should anything happen to a home or the people in it. This would be a major help when it comes to investigation and would cut down on the time for finding a culprit or suspect. The CCT surveillance also creates an awareness to robbers and loan-sharks who harass or harm the people of a home. Such thieves and loan-sharks will think twice before attempting to harass or break in to a home. Hence, there will be a decrease in the crime rate and more people will be at ease. The CCT surveillance also helps in the monitoring of people in the home. This allow home users to be able to be informed and react promptly in a situation such as serious injuries at home or the monitoring of maids. Hence, CCT surveillance is very useful in many ways.

1)What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ? The advantages of CCT surveillance is that shop owners will be able to deal with many thieves that may strike as the CCT surveillance will record the thieves faces to help in capturing thieves. Shoplifters, thieves and terrorist attacks will be easily and quickly be settled as the police are watching round the clock. 2)People in the shop would feel uncomfortable as there are cameras everywhere and they know that are spying or looking on them. They would feel that they have no privacy as whatever they do, someone will be watching them. The people who are working there may feel untrusted by their boss as it is also a way to monitor workers.

Q1) If more CCT surveillance are set up, less crime would take place, and the city would be much safer. CCT surveillance also helps to detect any suspicious people trying to steal or shoplift by spotting remote areas where most shoplifters would most likely be at.
These activities such as shoplifting and theft would drop, as most of the shoplifters and thieves would be afraid of getting caught red-handed by the CCT surveillance while trying to shoplift.

Q1) By installing a CCTV security system in the shop, shop owners will be able to avoid dealing with many of the thieves that strike businesses that are not prepared. When the thieves realize that the shop is protected by a CCTV they may choose to go somewhere else. Their business will not have as many problems with shoplifters. Those shoplifters who don’t know that the business is protected are often apprehended because of the CCTV.
Q2) People in the shop would feel uncomfortable as there are cameras everywhere and they know that are spying or looking on them. They would feel that they have no privacy as whatever they do, someone will be watching them. Another disadvantage, which many would not write, is that those stores may even install a CCTV in the changing room or in the toilet ( the boss is a pervert)
