What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ?

The advantages of CCT is that it deters thefts and/or helps to identify the perpetrator more easily to prevent further crimes. Example, when your boss is up to no good in the toilet, the CCT would capture it on film and can be used as incriminating evidence against him. It could also track the activities of employees like where they go to and how long they spend on the phone and therefore the boss can take the necessary action and therefore increase productivity. With the help of CCT, people are afraid of committing crimes as they may be caught on footage and be arrested. It is also more efficient than spot checks by the police themselves as terrorists and burglars will be alerted of their presence while in the case of CCT, they may be unaware.

What are the disadvantages of CCT surveillance ?

The disadvantages of CCT is that terrorists can hack into CCT networks and observe the ongoing of the activities and use the information to their advantage like planting bombs to cause more deaths or injuries. People are also worried about invasion of privacy. They are worried that they cannot conduct any activities without being observed. Some people are worried that even minor offenses like littering may be caught on CCT and then the offender tracked down and fined. Proficient hackers can also enter the network without authorised permission and switch off the CCT cameras, defeating the purposes of installing the cameras.
